iOS: Per-app VPN - Does it reckognize the network I'm in

please don't bash me if this is a silly question as I'm in no way a VPN or networks guy.

We'd like to evaluate per-app VPN so that specifc apps and / or specific safari domains may route through VPN while other apps / domains remain outside the corporate network. While I suppose to understand the concept of that bit quite well I'm not so sure about implications of the user switching networks.

Will per-app VPN be aware of say a corporate network where direct access is granted and VPN is not necessary or even not possible? Other way of putting this would be: Will per-app VPN play along with on-demand VPN?

Example:

User John Doe has a corporate iPhone with per-app VPN installed with a policy to route safari traffic to example.com to the VPN if he is not currently in the corporate network of his own "example company" where he obviously doesn't need VPN.
