Can I use a single Provisioning Profile for an app, both for general use and for push notifications?

Can I use a single Provisioning Profile for an app, both for general use and for push notifications? Docs online seem to say you need another Provisioning Profile for push, apart from the one you created for the app originally.

I did the two-PP approach (successfully) for an earlier app but would like to simplify the procedure if possible.
